Join us for this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the heart of the picturesque Dordogne River Valley, where all of France’s provincial charms have been distilled into one of Europe’s most beautiful and intact medieval villages, Sarlat-la-Canéda. Here, for one full week, you will experience the rich culture, fascinating history and rhythms of daily life while enjoying accommodations in the charming Hôtel de la Madeleine. To further enhance your experience, we have arranged the exclusive Village Forum with local residents; specially arranged lectures with your host Philippe Melot, who will introduce you to Sarlat’s architectural treasures and the Périgord’s world-renowned culinary wonders; and guided excursions to explore the prehistoric caves of Lascaux II and Rouffignac, Richard the Lionheart’s castle at Beynac and the medieval villages of Domme and Rocamadour. Excursion to the dramatic Cliffside village of Rocamadour and the unspoiled village of Souillac, including lunch. Tour of L’Abri du Cap-Blanc and the Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac. Visit to the charming villages of St-Amand-de-Coly and St. Geniès. Excursion to Lascaux II and Rouffignac Cave. Visit to the lush, impeccably maintained Gardens of Eyrignac. Tour of the fortress of Beynac-et-Cazenac, including lunch. Specially arranged gabare cruise on the scenic Dordogne River past the fortress of Castlenaud. Walking tour of Domme, a 13th-century walled village. A lecture on architectural preservation in Sarlat-la- Canéda by Philippe Melot, a leader of efforts to protect the town’s historic buildings.
