California Wine Country (Young Alumni)

August 6-9, 2009

Travel through this world-renowned region and explore the beautiful countryside of the Napa and Sonoma valleys. Experience wine culture and production through private discussions with vineyard experts and sample locally made cuisine during culinary tours and tastings.
Day 1 San Francisco – Calistoga. Arrival at San Francisco International airport; transfer to Calistoga area and check into the historic Mount View Hotel & Spa. Built in 1917 in the Mission Revival style, the Mount View Hotel is a gracious grande dame of resorts, among the premier historic hotels of Napa Valley. Toast to great times during our welcome orientation and first wine tasting.
Day 2 Napa Valley – After a sumptuous continental breakfast delivered to your room, we depart for a grand tour of some of our favorite Napa Valley wineries and picturesque vineyards. Join our local expert and visit four select winemakers and learn about different methods used in Napa to produce some of the world’s finest wines. A picnic lunch will be served during this excursion. Upon returning to the hotel, you may want to take advantage of some of the tantalizing spa activities offered, or explore charming Calistoga, “Hot Springs of the West,” and indulge in a famous mud bath.
Day 3 Sonoma Valley – Why not join an optional hot air balloon ride this morning for a bird’s eye view of the valley, followed by a tasty brunch? In the afternoon, we depart by bicycle on easy terrain to Sonoma to embark on a winery tour and wine country picnic (supporting vans available for non-bikers.) Take the road less traveled and enjoy the fabulous countryside. To conclude this wonderful weekend, you may want to join your fellow travelers for an optional ride on the Napa Valley Wine Train. This is certainly the most stylish way to enjoy the culinary treasures and sample the offerings of the extensive wine list while rolling through magnificent countryside in vintage Pullman railcars.
Day 4 San Francisco – Travel home. After breakfast, transfer to San Francisco International airport and board your flight home with memories of the Northern California Wine Country to last a lifetime!
