Club Scholarship Recipient

Laura Tidwell

Hometown:Arlington, Texas

Major: Pre-Vet

What made you choose to come to Auburn?
I was very impressed by the Veterinary and Medicine College. Because I want to be a small animal veterinarian, I was intrigued by the facilities Auburn posses. Also, I love to participate in band. I have heard nothing but good praises about the band program here. The environment is amazing. The first time I visited Auburn, I felt like I was at home. I also felt extremely safe and like I was in the place I was suppose to be. My parents helped indoctrinate me as well before I could even comprehend what Auburn was.

How has receiving the Alumni Scholarship impacted your life?? It has made my dreams of going to Auburn become more of a reality. Out of state tuition is not an easy sum to pay. It helps my parents support my career choices and allows them to help me with other needs for my college life.

What has been your best experience at Auburn so far?? The band, by far, has been the best experience. Although I have not been able to march in Jordan Hare Stadium yet, which will be tomorrow, I have had an overwhelming since that I belong in this university. They have been a great impact on my every day experience so far. They give me the sense that we are a family, a team; we are all in this together. It stretches out far past the band. The band is part of a team; a team that includes the football team, the coaches, the band directors, the cheerleaders, and the fans. I also love how classy the band is. It reminds me so much of my band program back home, and I absolutely love it!

What would you say to a high school student from your area who is considering coming to Auburn University? Hopefully there will be more students from my area that would like to come to Auburn! I would tell them that they should first make sure this is where they really want to be. It is really hard for a person to move away from home, and not be able to return very often. I have a 13 hour drive home from Auburn. But, if they really, truly want to come to Auburn, it is well worth the home sickness. Everyone is a person here at Auburn, not just a number. The professors, the ones I have gathered so far, are willing to help the students out as much as possible. They keep us up to date and well informed of the subject matter. Everyone works together to help each other out, and I know that is not typical in any other college

What do you think off when you hear?

Auburn Spirit: intense, but in a good way. Everyone cheering for the same team, all together, as one body.

Auburn Family:Professors helping students figure problems out. Camp War Eagle and how the professors made sure we got a good schedule.

War Eagle:Beat Bama! Also, that one phrase and how it links us, no matter where we are, or what we are doing at that moment. If we see someone with an Auburn logo on a piece of clothing and cry out “War Eagle!” you just met an old friend for the first time. It’s what separates us from any other college. It makes us a family.

Auburn Club:What kind of club? There are numerous clubs on campus. I would have to say my club is band.

Alumni Association:Strategis, honorary.

What clubs/activities are you a part of?
I’m mainly in the band program. I also want to be in more clubs come Spring, however with band, I don’t have the time for any other clubs or activities.
