Heartfelt Sympathy to the Virginia Tech Community"The Auburn family extends our heartfelt sympathy to the Virginia Tech community for the incomprehensible tragedy that occurred on the campus of this fine institution. Virginia Tech, like Auburn, is a land-grant University, and its leaders have always been gracious with their time when we call upon them to discuss campus programs, academics and research. In the days and months ahead, our thoughts and prayers are with Virginia Tech students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and their families." - AU President Ed Richardson

When tragedy like this happens to an institution as great as VT we extend our family to include those who are in pain. May God be with you in this trying time." "Our family is praying for the Virginia Tech family. We will continue to do so long after the story leaves the headlines. God Bless You All!!" "Words fail to adequately express our deep sorrow about such a senseless tragedy at your beloved Virginia Tech. The entire Auburn family grieves for and with you, and we offer our heartfelt sympathy to the Virginia Tech family. We pray that our loving, heavenly Father will comfort and strengthen you during such a unbelievably difficult time. Auburn and Virginia Tech are very much alike, and we stand with you!" "My thoughts and prayers go out to all VT alums, and to our Auburn faithful who are hurting with you because we know how special a close-knit college community like VT or Auburn is. I have continually thought of my Auburn friends over the last week, and in turn, have felt such a longing to reach out to VT, a school so similar yet so unique. May the thoughts and prayers of all of America help to sustain you." "Our thoughts and prayers are with all who were touched by this tragedy. We all feel your pain. None of us will ever understand how something like this could happen. We pray that this will be the last tragedy of this kind. Stay strong." "My son attended Auburn in the 90's. I would like to add my expression of deep sympathy for all the students involved and on campus and all the parents of ALL the students. My deepest sympathy goes out to you. I lost a 17 year old daughter in a car accident, so I feel your pain. You will always remember and it will have changed your lives forever, but with family, friends and God's help, you will recover. God bless you all and know we are all with you in spirit." "The Auburn alumni in Southeast Louisiana send their heartfelt prayers and thoughts to the VT community, especially to the families who lost a loved one. May God grant you peace in this confusing and heart-aching time." "Since I was little, I had always been an Auburn fan. Half my family was from Birmingham, and you couldn't escape the support and pride for the university. Later on I went to school and found my true colors of orange and maroon. The support you have shown here is exactly why I loved Auburn so many years ago. Thank you again. Go Hokies! and War Eagle!" "I am a 1992 graduate of VA Tech and a 1995 graduate of Auburn. Both schools hold a special place in my heart. My thanks to the Auburn community for their show of support to the VT students. God Bless the victims families and the entire VT community." "Emotions are running high in our Pittsburgh, Pa. household. My Father-in-Law, Brother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law, Husband and Niece are all Hokies. On the other hand my Two precious daughters are AU Tigers and I am so very proud of all,and of AU's Love and Support of VT. Let's all work hard so that this NEVER happens again and keep our VT 'Family' in our Prayers. War Hokie!!" "All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know it is hard to imagine people out in the world doing things like this but our world has changed so much over the years. I pray God will help you all thru the trying days to come. I know your community is constantly being prayed for by me and our country. God bless you all." "Having lived in Virginia for six years, I was lucky enough to make a few Hokie friends. When AU played VT in the Sugar Bowl, my Hokie friend, Cathy, and I would IM back and forth at various times of the game. There was a time when we were set to play Tech in Auburn one year and Blacksburg the next where we hoped we could meet and attend together with our friends, Cathy and Brett. I very much wanted to see the place where they had spent their college lives, and I also wanted to share my Auburn with them. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts will no longer allow this to happen. I have other friends in VA who, even if they did not attend Tech, have some ties to Blacksburg and are devastated by what happened there. Virginia is a beautiful place and Tech is a shining star. I love my Hokie friends, and share in their grief over what has happened. I love Auburn with all my heart, and know they love Tech the same way. I want them to know they are not alone in their suffering." "Please accept my deepest sympathies and unwavering support to all students, faculty, friends and relatives of Virginia Tech. Regardless of our personal loyalties, who we are or where we come from, we all stand in solidarity and support with the Hokie family. War Eagle and Go Hokies!!" "Sunday 4/22 -- I have just returned home from visiting my daughter, a sophomore at VT. It has been a long, emotional week for everyone. But VT has felt the world's love and support. My daughter had 3 friends shot last week, 2 of them are Pi Phi sisters. They are recovering but no one will ever be the same. I can not tell you how proud I was when I saw the sympathy board from Auburn. It truly touched my heart as well as many other hearts. The Auburn Board is displayed in the middle of the Drill field which is in the middle of campus and next to Norris Hall. There are a dozen boards set up for students and friends to sign. The AU Board is in the middle of all these boards. Tech and AU are so much alike. I couldn't be prouder to be a part of both." "My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this tragic event. I hope that the coming days will bring peace to all." "Auburn alumni and friends: The VT community has felt your love and support during this most difficult time, and we simply can not thank you enough. The banner that was delivered to the drill field says it all, and you've shown your class and dignity. Thank you!" "Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the entire Virginia Tech Community. Please know that you are in the thoughts of everyone from coast to coast." "Please know that all over the world our hearts grieve with everyone at VT. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you all. War Eagle and Go Hokies!!!" "To the Auburn Tiger Family: your sincere gestures are greatly appreciated by the Hokie Family. It's actions and words like yours that have proven so comforting over the past week. While it's impossible to convey the amount of gratitude that we feel towards you...we thank you for being there for us in our time of need." "The hearts and prayers and minds of all the Auburn Family are and will continue to be with all the Hokie Family in their sorrow and strength. We are two families united in friendship and support and goodwill. May God comfort all of you with his loving care and let the victims in your family live forever in your memories. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you from all of us." "As I've watched interviews in the aftermath of the VT tragedy, there appears to be a strong similarity of spirit between the AU & VT campuses. VT students, parents & teachers have exhibited grace & maturity throughout this tragedy. We feel such love and compassion toward you. And not to forget - the family of Cho as well. One can only imagine that poor family's feelings of isolation & heartbreak at the moment. Our prayers for your healing will continue for a long time to come. I pray that any flashbacks to the horror of that day be replaced with the knowledge of the HUGE amount of prayers coming your way." "The pain that my nephew, his friends, my sister, and myself/my family have seen/suffered at the senseless act of someone who had no regard for human life; any life. I hope we,as a society learn from this, and move forward to prevent history from repeating itself as it all to often does. Often, there is that light that catches your eye, that smell that triggers a memory, and for a moment you want to call out their name; and then it's gone, but you feel calmer knowing that they are close. Grief is personal, and unique; different for all of us, we need to let it run it's course, and ask for help when needed; soon the pain will lessen, and you wear it like a badge of honor." "I am so sorry for the tragedy that your community. I currently live in Virginia and I am so proud of all of you. It is wonderful to see you come together and help one another throught this horrible situation. You are in my prayers and may God bless you and give you strength through this." "My daughter is a freshman at Auburn so this incident at VT hit so close to home! I have shed many tears and prayed many times for everyone at VT. I hope you all realize that we are there with you in spirit. I cannot imagine the pain that you are going through but will continue to pray that God will wrap you in comfort and strength to get through this." "This does not define VA Tech, Virginia, college campus independence or our nation. As a Virginia resident AND a 3rd generation Auburn alum, my prayers have been with all impacted by this random, senseless act of one miserable soul. The Virginia Tech spirit, a sister to the Auburn spirit, stands as a light of how community heals. Go Hokies from this War Eagle sister." "This has been a sad week in Virginia. Please continue to send prayers and show your support for VA Tech. It is a beautiful place and reminds me so much of my beloved Auburn. We 'War Eagles' are all 'Hokies.'" "Hokie Hi,
- Jason S. Rufner, VT grad of Reston, Virginia "I cannot even begin to imagine all the pain each of you are experiencing from this tragedy. Please know that you are in our prayers." "Our heartfelt prayers are with you. God is STILL in control. Blessings on Virginia Tech: students, community, and alumni." "As the days continue to go by, please remember that your hurt, shock, sorrow, and anxiety are shared by thousands. Even though most of us connected to Auburn know very few of you Hokies, we lift you in prayer, in thought, and in hope believing that out of these darkest days you will soon will feel strength, encouragement, and optimism. There will again be 'joy in the morning.' God promises that and we pray those days for each of you will begin to come soon. We ask God to give you comfort as only He can." "I am so sorry for what has happened to you guys. I just can't imagine what you must be going through. As saddened as I was, I know it had to have been heartwrenching for you. I commend the majority of you for standing by your school and not placing the blame on the school. The actions of a serioiusly unstable young man are only to be blamed on him. I praise you for seeing this as what it was.... a unpreventable and unpreparable tragedy. May God Bless each of you and be with the entire VT family." "My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this terrible tragedy. I pray that God will comfort you and bring you peace during this very sad time. Psalm 23" "God bless and protect Virginia Tech, Auburn, and all other institutions of learning from anymore violence and tragedy. My love goes to VT, a school dear to my heart; and to Auburn, also dear to me, for showing such love, strength, and compassion in a time of desolation." "My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Virginia Tech Community. My thoughts and prayers are with the survivors, those who lost their lives and all who were effected by such a senseless act. The Bible describes a time to mourn and a time to rejoice, as the Virginia Tech Community is strong and will rejoice once again." "Dear Virginia Tech, please know that people around the country and around the world share in your tragic loss. The wonderful young students whose lives were cut short will never be forgotten. It will be the memory of a courageous Hokie community pulling together to bring comfort and peace to the nation that will be remembered. The outpouring of love and support, the shared tears, the memories, the way you shared your grief with a nation has gone a long way towards helping us heal. Though I've never visited that campus, I feel as though I'm an honorary Hokie and I'm proud and humbled to share in your pain and in your healing. I wish each and every family healing, strength and wonderful lasting memories of the lovely lives that are now in a better place." "There are no words to describe your grief and pain. And it is difficult to find words of comfort for a tragedy as heartbreaking, horrific and unjust as yours - maybe there really aren't any. But know that we hurt for you, cry with you, and are lifting you all up in prayer, daily." "This is not a message of sympathy, but one of thanks. I'm a 1978 Virginia Tech grad who fell in love with your University when I visited a couple of years ago. Your gracious outpouring of support means more than you can ever know, both to me and to the rest of the Virginia Tech family. Thank you Auburn, for standing with us in prayer. May God bless you all." "As VT alumni ('78), our hearts have been especially broken over the tragedy that occurred at Tech this week. Even though time and distance separates, Va.Tech still has a special place in our hearts and memories. God bless the Va. Tech commnunity. We are praying for your healing and for peace in your spirits." "As a proud 74 VT alum, I want to thank all the AU alums for their prayers for my school. Tech has spirit like AU and we will recover and continue to be a great university. Go HOKIES and War Eagle!" "Everyone connected to Virginia Tech is in my thoughts and prayers." "May God bring some peace and comfort to the VT family at this difficult time. You all are in the hearts and minds of more people than you can ever imagine. 'Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.' Psalm 23" "My heart goes out to all of those affected by this senseless tragedy. Once again this great nation mourns for the loss of innocent lives. Let god lift you up and start the healing process.War Eagle and God bless Virginia Tech!!!!" "You have been in my prayers and have my deepest sympathy for your loss and a wish for speedy recovers to the ones that remain." "To the students, faculty, staff, and families of those at Virgina Tech my heart breaks for all of you. I can't begin to imagine what you are going through but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers along with the rest of the nation. There is no explanation or answer that will ever justify what has happened but just know that with the faith and strength that can be gained through prayer you will make it through. 'Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.' Nehemiah 8:10" "Please know that we are praying for all of you. The tragedy you experienced Monday has touched so many people. God bless and keep each of you as you face the coming days with His strength to support you." "Please accept my deepest sympathies and unwavering support to all students, faculty, friends and relatives of Virginia Tech. Regardless of our personal loyalties, who we are or where we come from, we all stand in solidarity and support with the Hokie family." "As an Auburn grad and a VT professor, I want to thank all of the Auburn folks who have helped shine light at Virginia Tech at this dark time." "Tiger students, alumni and friends, Thank you all for your kindness, consideration, and words of strength and hope." "On behalf of the VT family, I'd just like to say that we have greatly appreciated your support during these trying times." "I dont know where to start. This is such a heartless act of evil. I can't help but think about "What if that had been Auburn? What if that had been OUR family?" I have never been to VT or know anyone from there but I LOVE them now and consider them a part of the Auburn family. I wish I could help everyone there. We need to study this incident to learn how to prevent this from ever happening again. Auburn, if you know anyone on campus that is simliar to the way this man acted....TELL SOMEONE your concerns. It's not rude or judging, its being caring and protecting your fellow family members. God Bless the Hokies and from all of us here...War Eagle to VT, you will be in our prayers...we love you." "Our prayers are with you. 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.' Phillipians 4:13. Your strength will inspire others. Continue to wear your orange. Go Hokies, from the Auburn Family!" "I want to extent my heartfelt sympathy to the Virginia Tech community. The senseless tragedy has touched lives far and near, as we all share the bond of humanity. Please know that each of you are in my prayers. God Bless all of you and God Bless Virginia Tech!" "To the Virginia Tech Family: The strength and love in your community is a beacon of light for communities around this nation and the World. I pray that you can take some comfort in knowing that the Auburn family is praying for you. I do believe that sometimes our creator seeks angels from this Earth. I believe he found them in Blacksburg, Virginia. Auburn University students, faculty, and staff will be wearing orange & maroon April 18th to show our support for the Virginia Tech family. We may be Auburn Tigers tomorrow, but for now we are all HOKIES. May God Bless all of you during this trying time." "As a resident of VA and a life long fan of the Hokies, I want to thank the Auburn family for the outpouring of sympathy and support they have shown. I think it these types of actions that are going to get the VT family through the grief and tough times to come. Seeing the AU Spirit come out in times like these makes me proud to be a part of the Auburn family! War Eagle and Go Hokies! Let us forgive, but never forget!" "May God bless and keep the Virginia Tech family, and the families and friends of those who were lost. May he grant them peace." "As college students, we are all connected. I cannot fathom what the Virginia Tech community is going through, but my heart bleeds with you. This tragedy has struck a nerve deep inside me and I feel so sad and angry at the same time. I only pray that the healing process is a short one. Thoughts and prayers from Auburn University." "As a native Virginian, my husband and I share your grief. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with your school and your community. May God's love, and the love of a nation surround you all." "Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone touched by this tragedy. May the Lord comfort and heal you. Blessings to you all." "Words simply cannot express the sadness in our hearts. As it has been said, you ARE Virginia Tech and you will overcome - always carry them with you." "My deepest sympathies go out to the Virginia Tech Family. God Bless all of YOU!" "My condolences go out to the Va Tech family and to the familes of those who have suffered great loss and injury....May the Lord be with you and give you Peace." "I want to deeply express my sympathy to all of the Virginia Tech students, faculty, and alumni. We here at Auburn feel pain for each and everyone of you. I thought I would share a prayer with all of you that has helped me through many rough times; I found it in Campus Life and it is written by Marcey Balcomb. In the dark, I sometimes forget the light will come, the stars will shine. In the rain, I sometimes forget the sun will come out, the land will be green and fresh. In the rush, I sometimes forget how to slow down, how to be still. In the noise, I sometimes forget the quiet will come, peace will return. In the loneliness, I sometimes forget you are always here, you are holding me. In the cold, I sometimes forget who warms my heart, who holds my soul. In the fear, I sometimes forget to trust in you, to lean on you. Forgive me, God, for not remembering that laughter will follow the tears, joy will follow the sorrow, healing will follow the hurt, day will! follow the night, because I sometimes forget. Amen. God bless all of you, and you are in my prayers." "TO VIRGINIA TECH STUDENTS : As a parent of an Auburn student I would like to pass on my/our prayers during your time of sorrow and loss. My advice to all of you is to pay attention to your feelings. Your grief will contain a host of emotions including sorrow, anger, confusion and depression. Your family ,friends and clergy will be your best support system. But, if your depression continues or seems to be controling your life, please seek professional help. I am sure your college system has resources to help you. Be aware that continued depression can lead to lifelong physical ailments. Lastly, please do not pay too much attention to the television media. They seem to be looking for an answer to WHY and want to place blame on someone. The blame solely rests on Cho Sung-Hui. Those with sane minds cannot ever grasp how an individual could commit such a heinous act. Stay strong in your obvious love for your school and once again know that many, many prayers are going out to all of you." "May Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you and the entire VT Nation during this awful, painful time. It is in His name I pray for all involved with this tragedy. War Eagle and Go Hokies!!!" "You are all in our prayers and will continue to be in the weeks, months and years to come. Like others, I have felt a connection with you guys due to the similarities in our universities and in our beautiful towns. Ya'll were great to be with at the Sugar Bowl and showed a spirit comparable to the AU spirit. Please know that in the midst of this unthinkable tragedy that God loves you and is in control. May you be sheltered and comforted in His arms of love. In His love, Charline Harbison, Romans 8:38-39" "As an Auburn Alum and a VT Mom, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to all the families, students and alumni of VT. These two great institutions are so similar. One of the best ways is that their students and alumni pull together in good times and bad. Thank you for the good wishes from AU and God Bless Virginia Tech." "We pray for strength and healing in this time. May God bring you peace even though you may not understand. We are with you and praying for you. Our deepest sympathies go out to you and yours." "My prayers are with our brothers and sisters at Virgina Tech as they struggle to make sense of this horrible tragedy. I made many VT friends at the 2004 Sugar Bowl. Every Hokie fan I met turned out to be a wonderful person full of kindness and a deep passion for their school, much like we have a deep rooted passion for Auburn...It's been said several times already but it really sums up the sentiment we all feel...Today, we are all Hokies... God Bless You ALL" "Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all those in the Virginia Tech family who lost loved ones and friends on Monday, April 16th. Many of those killed were from Fairfax County, which is also the home of the killer." "My deepest sympathies go out to the students who survived this terrible event at Virginia Tech. I offer my condolences to the those who lost family members and friends." "Having been born and raised in Richmond, VA, I have many friends who currently attend Virginia Tech. It hurts me to see them and the rest of the Tech community be in such pain. My heart goes out to all the victims, their familites, and everyone associated with VT. Stay strong, VA Tech. We're all here for you." "I believe that everyone has a chosen path in life. It is decided when they are born, as well as they day they will pass on from this lifetime. These loved ones, though they will each be missed immensly, are in a far better place than we. The grace of God will shelter them now, and comfort their fears. Let us not let the memmory of the man who took their lives be be what plays in our minds, but let us remember the wonderful characteristics the victims exemplified. God bless the families and friends of all those who were lost in this horrific event. Thoughts and prayers are with the suffering always." "Though I can't begin to fathom what all of the Virginia Tech family are feeling. I would like to offer my condolences to the VT family. I hope that you can find solace within each other over the coming weeks. Just know that all of us at Auburn, and all of us over England and the United States are behind you. You will be in our thoughts and prayers for a long time to come." "May all Hokie students, alumni, and families know there are many AU Tiger families praying for them. From this tragedy, we are reminded of the precious gift of family and of life. Our hearts mourn with you, VA Tech. We trust you will receive God's comfort and mercy in the days ahead. Wishing all Hokies the peace that passes all understanding!" "It is hard for me to comprehend the tradegy that has struck an institution so respected and so similar to Auburn. My heart aches to think there are still people out there who have no respect for human life. The the Auburn Creed reads 'I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men...' and I hope that our thoughts, prayers and sympathy will touch those of Virginia Tech. May God be with you." "Virginia Tech - We are here for you and praying for everyone there. We know you can get through this. You are VT and you will prevail. We all love you and know that this is hard. You are in our thoughts and prayers. To the injured, esp. Allison Cook, we are praying you continue to improve and reunite with your families in great condition. Hang in there.God will get you through. Thank you to the AU students who drove this up to VT. I was so excited when I saw my school doing something so great. We are all Hokies." "So much sorrow calls for solidarity. I heard on the radio today a call for everyone to wear orange or burgandy on Friday as a show of unity -- certainly the AU alums have some orange in their closets; let's all wear it on Friday to show our support, sympathy and respect for VT's spirit during this most difficult time." "As the father of a VT graduate, I share deeply the sadness, shock, and grief that has befallen the entire Hokie nation. My thoughts and prayers are fully with all who suffered so terrible a loss. As an Auburn graduate, I am extremely proud of my alma mater for their outpouring of love and support for their student brothers and sisters. I wish I could have added my name to that bulletin board. God bless you all." "These last few days have been somber, similar to those after the Columbine and 9/11 tragedies. I just can't believe that once again our nation and world is mourning the lose of so many innocent lives. When I heard of the tragedy at VT the first thought in my mind was Auburn my faithful Alma Mater. That could have been us. I agree with many of you who have also written, Auburn University and VT are very similar, we are a family. I commend those students and faculty at VT who took it upon themselves to save others' lives. I hope and pray that if I was ever in a situation, such as this horrific one, I to would find the courage to help my fellow man. VT students, alumni, families, faculty and staff you are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you all! Don't let your Hokie spirit die along with that cowardly gunman. Keep it alive along with the memories of those who were lost on this terrible day. We will never forget April 16, 2007. War Eagle and Go Hokies!" "We are all so broken hearted and send to you our most fervent prayers. God bless you all." "The entire Auburn family is saddened by the terrible events that have occurred on your campus. Please know that we are praying for each of you, and our hearts are breaking for the lives of those lost. May God Bless you all during this difficult time." "I wish to convey my deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire VT student body, faculty, alumni, and to the families of those who have been robbed of their loved ones. May God bless and be with you all." "My thoughts and prayers are with all of you...there are no words for something like this. Today we are all Hokies." "May God's love and mercy fall abundantly upon you during this time of healing. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you." "As an Auburn student that has several friends that attend Virginia Tech, my heart and prayers go out to everyone that has lost a friend, a sibling, a son, a daughter, or even a parent. You are not alone, we all share in your sorrow. Today we are all Hokies!" "As a Virginia Tech Alumnus (Class of 2002), I feel the pain and sorrow of my fellow Hokies. I tell my Virginia friends who haven't visited Auburn yet that Auburn is the Virginia Tech of Alabama because they are so similar. The people of both schools are nice and thougtful and I have enjoyed my time at both schools. This Friday has been designated as a "Hokie Spirit" day nationwide. Everyone is encouraged to wear maroon and orange to show support for the Virginia Tech students and their families." "Our neighborhood has been deeply affected by this tragedy as the parents of the gunman live in our neighborhood and 2 of the victims, as well as the gunman, were graduates of my daughter's high school. Though my heart will always belong to Auburn, I think I speak for most of my community when I say that this week we are all Hokies. Please remember to keep the family of the gunman in your prayers as they are victims along with all of those who lost children. Our prayers go out to the entire Virginia Tech community." "Thank you for your kind email recognizing the tragedy at Virginia Tech to Auburn Alumni in VA. I attended the Sugar Bowl a couple of years ago with friends from VT and today I received a message from a one of them that said, 'Today we are all Hokies'. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this awful tragedy. I come from an AU family but I have lived and taught in VA for over 35 years. I found out yesterday that a woman I have taught with for several years had a daughter who was killed in this senseless heartbreaking event. Everyone is so sad." "I'm an Auburn prof and a Tech grad, Class of 81. Nikki got it right. We will prevail. We are Virginia Tech." "Words cannot express the sorrow and grief all of us who are a part of the Auburn family feel for the students and families of Virginia Tech. God be with you all.Today we are all Hokies." "It is so hard to imagine what the Virgina Tech family is going through right now. Auburn is united in making sure if anything is needed at all that we are here for the Viginia Tech family. Our thoughts and prayers to those who lost loved ones, to those who lost friends, and to the entire VA Tech family." "I was in shock when I saw the news broadcast the horrible situation. My heart goes out to all of those affected in VT as well as the victims' families. I am praying for you all. May God help you in this troubled time." "To all of you at Virginia Tech and the families that have been affected: You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish the best for everyone and pray for you every night. You have the nations sympathy and praise for how well you've been dealing with the situation at hand. God Bless." "I would like to let all Virginia Tech students know that the students of Auburn University truly have your campus in our prayers. I know we can't fully understand your suffering, and I hope your spirits can be lifted soon." "Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. No one can explain why so many innocent lives were taken on that day. Just remember to stay strong and know that you will pull through this! God Bless!" "The events of April 16, 2007 will forever be preserved in history. However, we should not concentrate on the tragedy but rather celebrate the lives of those who did not make it through that day. I see many similarities between Auburn and Virginia Tech and cannot help but be struck by the thought that it could have easliy happened here. I cannot imagine the pain and fear these students must now face every day, but they should know they have the support of the entire nation and the world. May God bless everyone affected by this tragedy and allow them to come together and heal. VT, you have the support of everyone." "I cannot even imagine what the students at VT are going through. I don't know what I would do if something like that happened at Auburn. To anyone who has lost a loved one I am so sorry and you are in my thoughts and prayers every day. God Bless." "Thank you to the Auburn community for your prayers and support. It really does mean a lot to know that people in other parts of the country understand and sympathize with the deep pain all Virginians feel as a result of these events." "On the football field we are separated as Tigers & Hokies in fierce competition. However, in support of these horrific events let us all rise up as Hokies and remember the innocent who were slain as well as the obiviously troubled shooter." "Through my years in Virginia it has become apparent to me that Virginia Tech and Auburn are very similar in thought, practices, and spirit. This revelation began for me in 1975, when VPI came to Auburn and beat the Tigers. The Virginia Tech people were a ‘class act’ then and remain so today. This week the Hokie Nation has shown the world the meaning of ‘family’. I consider myself a Hokie as much as a War Eagle since living here. The 2005 Sugar Bowl was a tough game for me with AU playing VT. I offer my sincere condolences to the members of our family we lost in this tragedy. I hope and pray that some good can come from this devastating experience. So 'Let’s go Hokies' is just a good as 'War Eagle' for me!!" "Residing in the area now where many of my neighbors and friends are connected to VT, the mood is just so sad. My thoughts go out to all those affected." "I'm a graduate of both Auburn ('64), and Virginia Tech ('81), and have a daughter who just graduated from VT. She is very saddened by the events, and has participated in the Convocation and the Candlelight ceremony on the Drill Field. She is helped by presence and mutual comfort of her friends. Much like Auburn, VT is very much a big family; they're very close. Everyone down there appreciates the support that is being shown by the other universities in the country. My other daughter goes to Old Dominion University and she said the students were all wearing VT colors! (maroon and orange). At this time, we're all 'Hokies'!" "Our deepest sympathies go to the Virginia Tech family from the Auburn family all over the world." "I remember how I felt when Columbine happened and fast forward to now and it is still the worst feeling ever. I look at the victims and more than half are my age or younger. I realize how easily it could have been me. I ask myself, what would I have done? I can honestly say I do not think I could have been a hero like the victims at Virginia Tech. They were strong and courageous. God always takes the best people. It makes you stop and wonder. My heart and prayers are with the friends and families of all of the victims. God is watching out for them." "As an Auburn alum and as a father of a recent VA Tech graduate, I am always amazed by the many similarities shared between the two schools, including the friendliness of the students and sense of community. I am saddened at the tragedy at VA Tech, but know the Hokie spirit, like Auburn's, is strong and alive and they will recover from this senseless act. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those famlies and students at VA Tech." "I have many friends and colleagues who are VT alumni and VT employees. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and with the entire Hokie Nation. In these last few days you have shown what it truly means to be a Hokie through your strength in the face of tragedy. It’s great to be an Auburn Tiger, but right now we are all Hokies." "The troubled young man who felt the need to take so many innocents with him in his departure from this life leaves behind the sorrows of his family and those touched by the lives of the victims. He attended the same Centreville, Virginia high school as the shooter at the Sully police station last year. These two young men grew up in the shadow of the DC sniper shootings and the aftermath of Columbine. Clearly, we have a societal need to address. I live just a few miles from this school and have colleagues who attended VT. All of us even obliquely impacted by this tragedy have an obligation to do what's necessary to support the young people in our community." "Stay strong and know that you are in our prayers." - Sonny Maynor "As an Auburn man living in Richmond, I very much appreciate the support form the Auburn community. I’ve passed on the note from the Alumni Assoc to the Virginia-based alums to several friends. Like in Alabama, where everyone roots for either AU or UA, Virginia is largely a two-college state. There are very few, if any, in Virginia who aren’t directly impacted by this tragedy through family or close friends. Please know your thoughts and prayers are both needed and appreciated." "Our prayers are with you all. God Bless." - Wanda Sperow of Dadeville, Alabama "I cannot begin to imagine the feelings of loss and sadness being experienced by the family and friends of the victims of this tragedy, but the Virginia Tech family is sharing those feelings with me, and the entire Auburn family. Such great people, as shown when friends and I met numerous VT fans and students in New Orleans during the 2005 Sugar Bowl. So friendly, so happy, and even congratulatory after the Auburn win. They showed such class and I have ever since respected anyone associated with VT. Wonderful people going through such a horrible thing doesn't seem right, but you are not alone in your grief. The Auburn family grieves with you, and you will remain in our thoughts and prayers." "I cannot begin to comprehend the pain and heartbreak felt by the families, friends, classmates, and all those connected to the victims of this tragedy, but they are not alone in their sorrow. Please know that we all have lost something with this horrific event, and we all feel some kind of pain for it. You are not alone, and we are praying for you." "My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire VA Tech family. My husband and I met so many great VA Tech folks during the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and our hearts ache with you all." "Our thoughts and prayers are with Virginia Tech right now. It hits close to home with Auburn and Virginia Tech being very similar institutions. As a mom and a student advisor, I feel so much for what they are going through." "As a Mom, I cannot imagine losing a child. My thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragedy." "We are all saddened by the Virginia Tech tragedy. The entire Virginia Tech family, past and present, is continually in my prayers." "What a very sad day. My heart goes out to all students, alumni, faculty, staff, family and friends of Virginia Tech. Having grown up in Richmond, Virginia, I have close friends who are VA Tech alumni and feel very sorry for the tragedy that has struck their alma mater."
