  Officer of the Month

Lee Thompson ’06
President
Huntsville-Madison County Auburn Club

Lee Thompson currently serves as president of the Huntsville-Madison County Auburn Club and has been an active member of the club for the past four years; he served as vice president before taking the top position. Lee works for Southern Management Corp. as a branch manager for the finance company.

Lee says the most gratifying thing about being a member of the HMCAC is the work the club does to make a difference in the lives of future generations of Auburn students.

“I love that our work benefits local students; making an impact in their lives has meant more to me than I ever could have imagined,” Lee said. “We have the opportunity to directly impact someone’s future and that alone is simply special. In addition to helping these students, we’re also sharing the Auburn experience. Just knowing that we’re giving kids a chance to experience what I fell in love with is worth all the hard work.”

One of the 2014-15 Huntsville-Madison County Auburn Club scholarship recipients recently asked Lee what his favorite experience was from his time at Auburn.

Lee said he thought for a minute and then replied, “My best experience at Auburn was Auburn.”

Of course, if you are an Auburn man or woman, that makes perfect sense.

Lee’s grandfather attended Auburn, but after being drafted, he never returned to school, making Lee the first in his family to earn an Auburn degree. However, he is not the last. Lee’s oldest niece, Cameron Dungan, graduated in 2013 and while at AU, she was an executive officer with our Student Alumni Board, which governs the Student Alumni Association. Cam’s twin sisters, Conner and McKenzie Dungan, are current students, and Lee’s niece, Peyton Thompson, will be an incoming freshman this fall. In addition, Lee has two cousins and a second cousin who hold Auburn degrees.

Thank you, Lee Thompson, for carrying on the Auburn family legacy and for all you do for the Huntsville-Madison County Auburn Club!

  Membership

An Auburn Club is for all Auburn alumni and friends. The Auburn Alumni Association is dependent upon members making contributions to provide the necessary financial support to help carry on the services and programs required for an effective Auburn Club Program. According to Section 5 of the Policy for Auburn Clubs included in the by-laws of the Auburn Alumni Association, active membership in an Auburn Club shall be limited to the active members of the Auburn Alumni Association. All club officers must be active members of the National Alumni Association, but the by-laws of any club provide that worthy and loyal friends who are not alumni may become associate members of the local club. All clubs should promote this effort, since Auburn has tremendous non-alumni support from people across the state, region, and nation.
