This career included work on the early rockets that orbited the earth and landed on the moon to the final project of helping to erect the space station. Under the great coaching of Wilbur Hutsell and Mel Rosen I lettered in track and cross country all four years at Auburn. We are an all Auburn family with two children, their two spouses and one granddaughter finishing undergraduate degrees on the plains. Currently we are enjoying traveling the country in a motor coach and spending the fall in Auburn for home football games.

Moultrie

Mary (Ibbie) Hall Moultrie '57
1957 was a fantastic year! I graduated in Elementary Education with a BS and also got my MRS. that summer when I married Donald Hollie Moultrie, also class of '57 in Industrial Management. We became the proud parents of 5 children and have 5 grandchildren. Don retired from Lockheed-Martin in Orlando in 1995 and died 4 months later.

I retired from teaching in 2002 and began traveling with various members of my family. Have since visited, often repeating numerous times, most of Europe, Mexico, Canada, many of the Caribbean Islands, and all of the 50 states except one. As the picture suggests, I always try to take time to "smell the roses" wherever I am. When at home, I am active in church and civic endeavors. One of my stellar memories of Auburn is when the Auburn Band stood in the grassy area behind the Field House and we played a brand new song for the first time. Have to admit that I fell in love with the catchy "WAR EAGLE" song the first time I heard it! Played it hundreds of times as a student and still thrill to the sound of it when I play it in the Alumni Band or hear it at a game!

It could not have ended on a higher note! A national championship season in football provided an exclamation point to a fabulous college experience at the loveliest village. My Auburn degree opened the doors that afforded me a very rewarding business career. During that time, I managed to stay connected to our beloved university. My service on the boards of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Auburn Club and the Auburn Alumni Association provided many memorable and enjoyable moments that I will continue to savor down through the years. As frosting on the cake, all four of our children seized the opportunity to enjoy the Auburn experience, just as my wife, Donna, and I did several years earlier. During this adjunct stint, I taught sociology and rural development courses. Also, I taught a couple of years (one evening a week for fall, winter and spring quarters) in the youthful offender's prison at Only, TN.) My wife and I have been active members of the church of Christ from August of 1965 when we arrived in Nashville. We have four sons and 9 grandchildren. For the past three years I have been a substitute teacher in the Metropolitan Schools here. I have taught K-12, although I usually teach elementary students. My purpose is to do what I am assigned to do, but I also give the students profiles of persons that have overcome poverty and other hardships to become successful professionals by becoming dedicated students. (One young third grader that was angry and out of control announced to me after I subbed in his class over the course of a couple of months that he was thinking about becoming a doctor. I had profiled an angry youth early in my teaching his class that overcame his anger and lack of control. Once that youth focused on a controlled life and focused on education he became the great Neurosurgeon, Dr. Benjamin Carson. What a poignant moment to hear this third grader say I'm thinking about becoming a doctor.!)

On a trip to an orphanage in northern Cambodia, I was greeted with “War Eagle, I graduated from Auburn”. One of the nurses that joined my group was an Auburn graduate. This past spring, while working in a hospital in Liberia, I was greeted by a lady that recognized my Auburn hat and told me that her brother had attended Auburn. Auburn is world renown. Dr. Robin Embry '57
After graduation from Auburn in June 1957, I began Large Animal Veterinary practice in July of that year. 1957 was a big year - I married Margie Arrighi on July 3rd, practiced a few months, then, through the Alabama National Guard, served first tour of duty in San Antonio, TX, and Montgomery, Alabama with U.S. Air Force. Resumed Veterinary practice in August 1958 and practiced until October 1, 1961. Was then called to Air Force active duty for one year during the Berlin Crisis. First child, Karen, was born while I was in France during my tour of Air Force duty. Second child, Rob, Jr., was born in 1964. We have two grandchildren, one a sophomore at Auburn, the other in high school.

Resumed practice again August, 1962, and continued uninterruped until retirement June 1, 2007, concluding 50 years of Veterinary practice. Served as President of Central Alabama Veterinary Medical Association in 1966-67. Chairman of church board on 3 different occasions and on the Hooper Academy Board for six years. Served three years on original Grievance Committee of ALVMA. Am and avid Auburn sports fan, and since graduation have supported my University in every way I can.

I married the former Betty Beverly (Auburn '59) while we were students at Auburn. After graduation, I went into the Air Force as a pilot and we spent thirty exciting years stationed at many places in the United States and overseas, including a Vietnam combat tour for me in the F-105 fighter-bomber. After the Air Force, I worked as administrator for a medical group in Montgomery until retiring in 1996. We are the proud parents of three children with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. We live at Still Waters on beautiful Lake Martin, Ala.

I received a BS in Music Education in 1941 and a MS in General Education in 1944.  I am currently living in Montgomery, Alabama.  I taught school for 39 years and enjoyed every minute.  I took courses at six universities over the course of my teaching career.

I am 95 years old.  I remember the first world war, the second world war, and all the others including the one we are in now.  I love my country and want the best for it as everyone else but sometimes as of now, I am very worried.  I remember dealing with the hardships caused by the banks closing during the Depression.  I remember sliding off slick muddy roads when we got our first automobile.  I remember when I first saw television.  At college we had earphones to listen to the TV.  We would have a room full of college girls and only six earphones, so we passed them around and had a wonderful time.

I enjoy history and politics and I read several weekly news magazines.  I enjoy my friends and we play bridge twice a week at the senior center.  I am the oldest in my group and I appreciate their letting me play.  I especially love visiting and talking with people.
