The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes recipients for outstanding achievements in their professional lives, personal integrity and stature. and service to the university. It was established in 2001 to honor extraordinary accomplishments by members of the Auburn family. Recipients of Lifetime Achievement Awards are selected by a committee of Auburn administrators, trustees, faculty and alumni.

2012 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients
Each year, the Auburn Alumni Association recognizes extraordinary accomplishments by members of the Auburn family. Lifetime Achievement Award nominees need not be graduates of Auburn but must demonstrate a love and commitment to the university, have attained prominence in their professional careers, and be persons of integrity, stature and demonstrated ability.
On March 3, 2012, the Auburn Alumni Association will honor four alumni as recipients of Lifetime Achievement Awards—U.S. Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III ’86; Oncologist, surgeon and researcher Kirby Isaac Bland ’64; Astronaut and aerospace engineer N. Jan Davis ’77, and retired U.S. Marine Corps Gen. James E. Livingston ’62
