Hometown
Union, South Carolina (but I have lived in 6 other states)
Education
B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina, 1988;
Mini-MBA University of St. Thomas (Minneapolis) in Non-Profit Management; Academic
Management Institute, 2007
Career
From an early age, I knew I wanted to make a difference in the world so I have
been in non-profit work my entire career starting with the American Red Cross,
Special Olympics and Girl Scouts of the USA. My higher education career began
in the women's athletics department at the University of Minnesota and then
in alumni relations work and fundraising at Colorado College.
Favorite Music
Most people would be amazed at the music on my Ipod. I like it all, everything
from disco to rap!
Favorite Books
I have way too many favorite books to name, but I really enjoy historical fiction.
Most recently, I've read Water For Elephants and The Glass
Castle.
Favorite Author
Pat Conroy whom I walked by on the South Carolina coast once and did not know
what to say without sounding stupid.
Sports
I spend most of my time away from work on the tennis court. But I have a competitive
spirit in almost everything including: running, bunco, bingo, skiing and
board games. To borrow a line from the movie Talladega
Nights: “If you ain't
first, you're last!” I even have a few figure skating trophies I won in Minnesota.
Pets
I have a 9-year old cocker spaniel appropriately named Dixie.
My Auburn Story
After my visit to Auburn, I kept seeing the signs that I was meant to be at
Auburn. I was living in Colorado at the time so seeing signs of Auburn were
few and far between. But after my visit, I kept seeing cars with Auburn Alumni
Association stickers, people with Auburn hats, Auburn license plates and
a guy at my gym opened the door for me wearing an Auburn sweatshirt. I asked
him “Are you an Auburn fan?” and he said “Yes, are you?” and
I replied “I will be soon!” I was offered the job the next week.
I am very honored to be here and represent this fine institution. I invite
you to tell me your Auburn story!
